Gas prices are on the rise across the board.
Locally, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline it $2.45 in Buffalo, up a nickel from a week ago. In Rochester, it’s $2.41, up six cents.
The New York State average is up five cents from last week at $2.48 per gallon. A year ago, the state average was $2.18. The national average is now $2.39 per gallon, up six cents from last week. One year ago, the price was $2.04.
AAA Western and Central New York explains that gas prices have taken a big jump as travelers head out on spring road trips and Easter getaways. Spring travel brings increased demand for gasoline while refineries switch over to more expensive summer-blend gasoline.
The recent increase in gas prices has been steady and this trend should continue as refinery maintenance season winds down.
Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), which accurately predicted the rise, says U.S. gas prices haven’t been this high since August 2015.
