ROCHESTER — The Canisius outdoor track team completed a record day from the NAZ/ROC City Classic Sunday afternoon, running to four first place finishes, four stadium records and one school record.
Senior Brennan Root began the day for the Griffs with a first place finish in the men’s 3K steeple event (9:17.01), setting a Golden Flyer Stadium record.
From there, junior Carlin Sullivan set a school record with a second place finish in the women’s 1500 meter (4:39.15), while senior teammates Haley Keene (4:55.62) and Cat Niederpruem (4:58.18) placed seventh and ninth respectively.
Senior Cooper Roach became the second member of the Blue and Gold to break a stadium record on the day, winning the men’s 1500 event with a time of 3:54.50. Senior Xavier Sauvageau (2nd, 3:58.32), freshman Donny Glavin (6th, 4:02.38) and senior Galen Snyder (7th, 4:02.99) all placed inside the top ten in the event.
Freshman Justyna Wilkinson (18:38.25) and Anthony Belfatto (15:46.87) continued the strong Golden Griffin running, with second place finishes in their respective 5K events.
The Griffs also found success in the 4×800 meter races, winning the event on each side, while also breaking school records in each.
The women’s 4×800 team of Keene, Sullivan, sophomore Siobhan Quinn and junior Haley Virginia won the event with a time of 9:33.74, while the men’s team of freshman Marcus Brown, sophomore Paul Henry, Roach and Root gained a top time at 7:48.16.
The Griffs will head to Lewsiburg, Pa. next Friday, as they take part in the Bucknell Bison Invite.
