POUGHKEEPSIE — The Canisius baseball team was unable to avoid the series sweep, falling to Marist on Sunday, 13-3 at James McCann Field. Marist opened up the scoring in the first inning, plating five runs, and never looked back, improving to 15-11 overall and 5-4 in conference play, while Canisius drops to 16-13 overall and 2-4 in MAAC action.

Andrew Sipowicz got the start for Canisius was greeted with a five run, three hit rally to set the tone for the contest. The Red Foxes left no doubt in the contest, breaking out again in the bottom of the fourth inning, plating five runs on five hits, as he chased Sipowicz in the frame.

Nolan Hunt came on in relief and worked 2.2 innings and allowed three hits and three runs, while Alvin Vega and Tyler Smith each pitched a frame and held Marist scoreless and limited the Red Foxes to two hits combined.

Marist had the bats going in the contest, registering 14 hits, while the Blue and Gold managed seven.

Liam Wilson  and Jake Lumley paced the team in hits with a pair each. Wilson went 2-of-5 from the dish, while Lumley was 2-of-4. Wilson, pinch hitter Brandon Nicholson, and John Conti were all responsible for an RBI apiece.

The Griffs will be back in action early this week, as the squad has a pair of midweek games scheduled for Tuesday at the Koessler Athletic Center and Wednesday in Amherst, N.Y. Both games are slated for 3 p.m. Canisius continues MAAC play on Friday with a trio of games against Siena beginning on April 14.
