The Canisius baseball team continues its conference schedule on Saturday, as the squad heads to Poughkeepsie to take on Marist for a three-game set. The Blue and Gold and Red Foxes compete in a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at noon, before completing the weekend series on Sunday at noon.

Canisius enters the weekend with a 16-10 overall record and a 2-1 MAAC mark, while Marist is 12-11 and 2-4 in MAAC play.

The Griffs are coming off a hard-fought series with Monmouth, as the squad dropped the opening game against the Hawks, (17-6) before battling back to a walk-off 4-3 in in game two and a 11-10 victory in the series finale.

Meanwhile the Red Foxes dropped its latest MAAC series, falling to Quinnipiac in three games, 7-4, 2-0 and 4-2.

Offense was was the name of the game last weekend for the Blue and Gold as both Monmouth and the Griffs had the bats swinging, helping the Griffs maintain its rank as the No. 1 offense in the league.

Canisius comes into this weekend with the best team batting average with a mark of .264, as well holding the most hits of any team in the league, with 229 hits in 866 at bats. The Blue and Gold also leads the MAAC in runs with 152, 14 more than the second-highest total, coming from Monmouth.

Canisius will head into Poughkeepsie as the top hitting-team in the conference, however the top-pitching team will be there to greet them in the Marist Red Foxes.

Marist maintains a 3.76 ERA through 23 games, allowing 84 runs, the lowest of any team that has played 23-or-more games this season.

Senior Jake Lumley leads the team in batting average with a .387 mark, tallying 41 hits in 106 at bats this season. Ryan Stekl’s big weekend last series vaulted him into the team lead in RBI, having posted 22 RBI, to go along with 32 hits and a .330 batting average.

Lumley, Liam Wilson along with Stekl are ranked in the top-four in hits in the league with Lumley and Wilson ranked first and second (41 and 33) and Stekl ranked fourth (32).

Stekl leads the MAAC in RBI with his mark of 22, while Liam Scafariello from Quinnipiac is second with 21.

While the pitching took a hit against the hard-hitting Hawks last weekend, the Blue and Gold is still ranked fourth overall in team pitching, with a team ERA of 4.27.

Junior J.P. Stevenson is the Griffs most effective starter, having appeared in seven games, with a 4-2 record and a 2.49 ERA. The third-year hurler has also struck out 36 batters, which is third in the MAAC.

Following the Griffs series against Marist, the Blue and Gold head home for a midweek series against Buffalo on Tuesday, before heading to Loudonville on Easter weekend for a three-game series against the Siena Saints, April 14 and 15.
