BUFFALO — Canisius junior Erica Evans has been named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week after an eight-point performance in the women’s lacrosse 18-5 win over Iona Saturday, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Evans had one of the best all-around games of career in the victory, recording seven goals, one assist, seven caused turnovers, seven ground balls and four draw controls. Her seven caused turnovers marked a career high, while her seven ground balls tied a career high. Her seven goals were one shy of her school record set last season against Monmouth.

In the 18-5 win over the Gaels, the junior midfielder would get the scoring going with a free position goal to put the Griffs up 1-0. Following a Gaels goal, Canisius would go on a 4-0 run that saw two goals from Evans for a 5-1 lead. Evans would add her fifth goal in an 8-0 run that gave the Griffs a 14-3 halftime lead. The midfielder would then add two goals in the second half to help secure the win for the Blue and Gold.

The Peterborough, Ontario native has recorded at least seven points in four consecutive games, and is now four goals away from tying the Canisius career goals record of 154 held by former Griffs Megan Oosting and Tori Quinn. Evans has amassed 150 career goals and 190 career points, while still in her junior year.

An Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American, Evans has now been named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week on two separate occasions this season.

Evans will look to set the Canisius goal record Wednesday afternoon, when the Griffs host Siena from the Demske Sports Complex at 4 p.m.
