FREDONIA — Buffalo State’s women’s lacrosse team will open its SUNYAC season tomorrow at Fredonia at 4 p.m. and the game will have some added significance.  Fredonia currently leads the season-long all-sports “Battle by the Lake” competition 17-9, and with eight available points remaining, the Bengals have no room for error in their efforts to salvage a tie for the season series.

Tomorrow’s women’s lacrosse contest carries a critical two points to the winner.  The Bengals will also need to sweep a pair of softball games (one point each) at Fredonia on April 15, and then finish ahead of Fredonia in the team standings at the SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 5-6 (two points each for men and women).

In women’s lacrosse, the Bengals are coming off a 15-11 victory over Allegheny in their last outing on Friday and are 3-4 overall this season.  Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) is leading the SUNYAC in scoring with 41 points in seven games this season (15 goals and 26 assists).  Christin Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) is the team’s leading goal-scorer with 17.

Fredonia is 2-7 this season, but won its SUNYAC opener in its last outing on Saturday, defeating Potsdam, 13-1.
