BUFFALO — The Canisius rowing program continues its season on Saturday, as the squad races against RIT at the West Side Rowing Club. The regatta, which was originally scheduled as a scrimmage, will begin at 11 a.m.

“We are really looking forward to seeing RIT at home tomorrow,” head coach Erin Neppel said. “We are coming off of our first full week of practice on the water since spring training, and the quality of the work has been exceptional.  I am interested to see how this translates to head-to-head racing, and am hoping for some good battles.”

Canisius got a good start to its spring season, posting some impressive times at the Murphy Cup, despite not moving on in their respective events. The conference honored the squads for their work, naming the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four, as the MAAC Boats of the Week.

The varsity eight and second varsity eight bested its only other MAAC competition in the stacked field, topping both Robert Morris times.

With a solid race behind them and feeling the positivity of a job well, done, Neppel sees things coming into focus for her squad, especially her second varsity eight.

“Our 2V in particular is really coming into its own this week, and the whole program is benefiting,” Neppel said. “I’m expecting the racing to not only be between us and RIT, but I’m sure some internal competition as well, which is fantastic.”
