BUFFALO — Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) had nine points and Morgan Hogue (Painted Post/Corning) scored four times as Buffalo State defeated visiting Allegheny 15-11 on a cold and wet Coyer Field this afternoon.

Hogue’s four goals helped pace the Bengals’ offense, while Herne finished with three goals and six assists. Kyra Thompson (Massena/Salmon River) and Nina Schaefer (Lafayette/Lafayette) added three goals apiece, and Cassie Saint-Vil (Middletown/Middletown) and Jackie Dufresne (Lake View/Frontier) also scored. The Bengals never trailed, taking an early 3-1 lead, and used a late push to take a 9-4 advantage into the intermission.

Allegheny scored four-straight goals to cut the deficit to 10-8 early in the second half, but the Bengal would eventually pull away for the four-goal victory. Megan Doyle (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) made four saves while allowing seven goals for the win.
Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) started the second half, but was relieved after just over five minute, conceding four goals on five shots. The teams combined to commit 61 turnovers with 31 credited to Allegheny. Buffalo State held a 32-24 edge in ground balls and a 26-21 advantage in shots.

Buffalo State will open SUNYAC play at Fredonia in a Battle by the Lake contest on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
