BUFFALO – Binghamton went on a 6-1 run during the second half to break open a close contest and defeat Canisius, 11-7, in collegiate men’s lacrosse action Tuesday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Tom Moore scored three goals and added four assists to lead the Bearcats (7-1), who extended their winning streak to six games with the victory. Thomas McAndrew and Tyler DeLuca chipped in two goals apiece for Binghamton.

Junior Ryan McKee tallied three goals for the Griffs (4-5). Senior Jeff Edwards and juniors Steven Coss, Eric Gold and Connor Kearnan accounted for the other four goals for Canisius.

Holding a slim 5-4 edge midway through the third quarter, a man-up tally from McAndrew with 6:44 remaining in the frame sparked the Bearcats to notch the final three goals of the quarter and build an 8-4 cushion heading into the fourth.

Gold temporarily stemmed Binghamton’s momentum with his first goal of the campaign at the 11:05 mark of the fourth quarter, but the Bearcats responded with consecutive strikes from Moore, McAndrew and Joe Licata to take their largest lead of the game, 11-6, with less than five minutes to play.

Canisius attempted to make a comeback, using goals from Kearnan and Coss just 31 seconds apart to make it an 11-7 contest with two minutes to play. That would be as close as the Griffs would get however, as Binghamton kept Canisius off the scoreboard the rest of the way to record the four-goal victory.

Earlier in the game, Binghamton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening 2:42 of the contest as it used tallies from Matthew Kaser and Liam Reaume to build the early advantage.

Edwards got the Griffs on the board a little more than a minute later to cut the Canisius deficit to 2-1, but the Bearcats responded with goals from Joe Grossi and Tom Moore to build a 4-1 cushion.

McKee made it a 4-2 contest with his first goal of the half with 5:07 remaining in the first quarter, only to see Tyler DeLuca counter at the 9:29 mark of the second quarter to restore the Bearcats three-goal margin.

McKee struck with 1:21 to play in the first half to trim the Canisius deficit to 5-3 and added another midway through the third to pull the Griffs within one and set up the Bearcats game-changing run.

Canisius returns to action April 8 when it travels to Michigan for a Noon contest against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Detroit Mercy.
