BUFFALO — Martine Bye and Alec Tuohy have been named the University at Buffalo’s Athletes of the Week.

Bye had an outstanding performance at the Bulls’ first meet of the outdoor season. Bye placed first in two events: javelin and high jump. Bye’s distance of 145’ 2” in the javelin throw not only won her first place at the competition, but it currently ranks first in the Mid-American Conference and 27th in the NCAA East. Bye also took first in the high jump after clearing the bar at 5’ 5”.

Senior Pitcher Tuohy had his best outing of the season on Thursday night on the road at Sam Houston State as he picked up his team-leading fourth win of the season. Tuohy scattered seven hits and three runs across 8.0 innings while striking out a career-high nine batters. Tuohy pitched into the ninth inning after allowing just two runs but allowed a single and a walk before getting replaced. The nine strikeouts were a season-high for the Bearkats and the most in a game by an UB pitcher this season. The senior now holds a 4-2 record on the season while striking out six batters in 30.0 innings.
