BUFFALO — UBMD Physicians’ Group, the largest medical group in Western New York, will soon begin seeing patients in the Conventus building on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. Twelve of the group’s 18 medical practices will see patients on the fourth floor of Conventus, located at 1001 Main Street in Buffalo at the corner of Main and High streets. This is the first location that brings these practices together under one roof.

“Opening 12 UBMD practice locations on one floor in Conventus is an enormous opportunity for us and for our patients,” said Kevin Gibbons, M.D., the executive director of UBMD Physicians’ Group (UBMD) and a neurosurgeon with UB Neurosurgery, one of the 12 practices moving into the new location. “By bringing together 12 of our practices, we believe we’ll be able to enhance the patient experience by making it easier for patients to take care of their medical needs in one location. We are immensely fortunate to be at the epicenter of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and collaborate with our many partners in Western New York’s health care.”

To keep patients informed about the move and answer questions, UBMD recently launched a new website, www.ubmdconventus.com. On the site, visitors can get answers to frequently asked questions and learn more about the practices that are opening locations in the Conventus building and what patients need to do prior to their first appointment at the new location. The site also includes detailed patient parking and public transportation options, an interactive map for driving directions, and features the latest news about UBMD.

The UBMD practices opening new locations in the Conventus building are: Dermatology, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics-Gynecology, Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Pathology, Pediatrics (subspecialties), Psychiatry, Surgery, and Urology. Opening dates will be added to the website at www.ubmdconventus.com as they become available.
“UBMD Physicians’ Group will be utilizing a phased move-in approach,” Gibbons said. “As our practices set open dates, we will be updating ubmdconventus.com with this information.”
Neurology and Pediatrics, currently located in Buffalo General Medical Center and Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, respectively, will both be moving their Buffalo outpatient offices onto the fourth floor of the Conventus building. Two practices — Obstetrics-Gynecology and Pediatrics — will have administrative offices on the fifth floor of the building. Of the 12 practices, UBMD Pediatrics will have the largest clinical and administrative space.

Teresa Quattrin, M.D., president and chief executive officer of UBMD Pediatrics, said the move to Conventus is essential for UBMD Pediatrics to deliver multi-disciplinary care and leverage the proximity with Oishei Children’s Outpatient Center on the second and third floors of Conventus and John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital adjacent to the building. These proximities will lead to enhanced care coordination for patients. “This move is integral to the advancement of our multi-specialty program and our patient care,” said Quattrin, who is also a University at Buffalo Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics and the A. Conger Chair of the Department of Pediatrics. “Caring for patients on the same floor with 11 of our sister UBMD practices creates a new synergy within UBMD as it can enhance and allow for the transition of our pediatric patients to the adult care providers.

“Additionally, the proximity of our practice to the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, currently under construction across the street, and our other partner organizations on the Campus will enhance our capacity to teach the allied health professionals of the future. By moving downtown, we engrain the UBMD physicians and staff with our colleagues on the medical campus, which will open additional doors for collaboration and medical advancements. All of these changes are going to be to the benefit of our patients, our community in Western New York and beyond. We are privileged to be a leader in these advancements.”

UBMD Physicians’ Group is the single largest physicians’ group in Western New York with more than 500 respected doctors in 18 medical practices and approximately 1,200 other care providers and support staff. UBMD physicians are treating patients, conducting research on top medical needs, providing research-guided care, and teaching the next generation of doctors. UBMD Physicians’ Group is the clinical practice plan of the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo.
