BUFFALO — Senior Blake Hamilton has been named to the NABC All-District 14 First Team, the National Association of Basketball Coaches announced on Wednesday morning. District 14 is comprised of the entire Mid-American Conference.
Hamilton was named second-team All-MAC as he led the Bulls in scoring this past season at 17.5 points per game and had a team-high 141 assists. Hamilton was twice named the MAC East Player of the Week and three times he surpassed the 30-point mark, the most by a UB player since Javon McCrea in 2013-14. He had a career-high 36 points against Alaska-Anchorage earlier this year and then he followed that up with 33 points at Akron and 32 points on Senior Day against Bowling Green.
Hamilton scored 20 or more points in four of the final five games of the regular season and in all scored 20 or more points 13 times this past year. He had a career-best 11 assists against Nazareth and he twice flirted with triple doubles in home wins over Western Michigan and Central Michigan.
In the MAC Quarterfinal game against Kent State, Hamilton became the 19th player in school history to surpass the 1,000-point mark for his career, doing so in just two seasons as a Bull. In his two years with UB, Hamilton finished with 1,004 points, 122 three-pointers, 438 rebounds and 226 assists.
Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men’s basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today’s student-athletes.
