BUFFALO — Benji the Bengal is representing Buffalo State in the 2017 SUNY Mascot Madness, the fifth annual, month-long social media-driven competition between SUNY campuses to name New York’s favorite mascot. The opening round of the tournament began at 1 p.m.
Benji is taking on Hudson Valley Community College’s Victor the Viking in the opening round of the tournament. Everyone is eligible to cast one vote every 12 hours. Fans can vote for Benji in his round one match up against Victor here.
Links to vote for the rest of the rounds will be available at blog.suny.edu/mascot-madness-2017. The format of the contest is a single-elimination bracket of four divisions with five rounds. All mascots were randomly placed into the four regions and were ranked by the number of athletic teams each mascot represents. Buffalo State was named the No. 4 seed in region three.
SUNY has more than 85 NCAA Division I, 290 Division III and 385 NJCAA athletic teams, as well as hundreds of non-competitive athletic clubs. This year 38 SUNY mascots are all vying for the title.
