BUFFALO — Canisius juniors Erica Evans and Rebecca VanLaeken have been tabbed for MAAC Weekly Awards, after wins against Duquesne and Michigan this past week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Evans was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week after posting 10 goals, four assists, 10 groundballs, eight draw controls and six caused turnovers in the two games.

The midfielder totaled five goals and two assists in a 23-12 win over Duquesne Wednesday afternoon, while also adding five ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers.

In an 18-10 over Michigan Sunday afternoon, Evans matched her goal, point, ground ball, and draw control totals from the game previous, while also causing four turnovers.

Evans also moved to fourth on the Canisius all-time goals list (139), passing former Griffs Whitney Card (137) and Maria Kotas (136) in the victory.

VanLaeken, who was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week, gained a win in both contests, while posting a .543 save percentage and 11.12 goals against average.

The goalkeeper made 12 saves (allowing 11 goals) and added a ground ball in the win over Duquesne. In the win over Michigan, VanLaeken made 13 saves along with three ground balls.

The award is the second for VanLaeken this season, while Evans earned her first weekly award of the year.

The Griffs will now have nearly two weeks to prepare for MAAC play, with their next game coming on the road against Manhattan on Saturday at 4 p.m.
