BUFFALO — The Buffalo Police Department reports that Buffalo fire investigators have a person in custody in connection with this weekend’s apartment fire on LaFayette Avenue.

Approximately 90 residents of the apartment building were left out in the cold — literally — when a fire swept through the building Saturday morning.

BFD firefighters battled the blaze at the Lafayette-Barton Apartments at Lafayette Avenue and Barton Street for half a day. When they were done, damage was estimated at nearly $2 million.

Most of the residents have been temporarily sheltered by the American Red Cross.
