TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A 37-year-old prisoner at the Niagara County Jail is facing additional charges after Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies say they found him in possession of contraband at the jail.

According to NCSO, jail staff called deputies to the jail around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, having found contraband on Nathaniel Duane Smith of Lockport. The contraband included what they believed to be suboxone, cocaine, and an unknown substance.

Smith was charged with first-degree promoting prisoner contraband and two counts of seventh-degree possession of controlled substance. He was arraigned in Town of Lockport Court with bail set at $2,500 on the additional charges. He was then taken back to Niagara County Jail and has a return date to the Town of Lockport Court on Thurday.

The suspected suboxone, cocaine, and unknown packaged substance was secured in NCSO evidence lockers for further testing.
