Junior Travis Wright placed 11th in the men’s three-meter diving event with a score of 649.75, as the Canisius diving program competed in day two of the Zone A Diving Championships from Virginia Tech Tuesday afternoon.
Also diving for the Griffs were sophomore Vivian Mroz, who placed 27th in the one-meter preliminary round with a score of 228.15, and senior Brent Carbone who finished 29th in the three-meter prelim at 263.15.
Wright scored a 323.8 in the three-meter preliminary, placing 10th, and advancing to the finals event, before scoring a 325.95 in the final round to finish in the 11th position.
The Championship, which highlighted the top divers in the northeast, ended the 2016-17 season for the Blue and Gold.
The event marked the first time that Canisius qualified three divers for the Zone A Championship, while Mroz became the first female diver to qualify for zones in program history.
Carbone completed his four-year diving career with his performance Tuesday afternoon. The senior reached the 300-point mark in both the one meter and three meter events during his time at Canisius, scoring a 308.62 in the one meter against Binghamton this season, while totaling 312.15 against Niagara this past January.
Mroz had a strong sophomore season, breaking both the one and three-meter female diving records for Canisius. She scored 259.80 and 280.55 respectively in the events, while placing second in both dives at the 2017 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championship.
Wright also broke both Canisius diving records on the men’s side this season, reaching 371.85 in the one meter and 398.45 in the three-meter event. The junior won both events at the 2017 MAAC Championships and was named MAAC Male Diver of the Year.
