BATAVIA — The Ninth Annual Ducky Derby to benefit the United Way will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the GCC Aquatics Center.

Organized by the GCC Business Forum Club, the derby raises money for the United Way of Genesee County and last year’s efforts donated more than $2,300. Over the years, the annual Ducky Derby has collectively raised more than $10,000 for the United Way.

Students involved in the event are currently selling numbered ducks around campus, which will be released in competition, with a little help from members of the College swimming, diving, cheerleading and dance teams in the GCC Aquatics Center pool on at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Ducks are available for purchase for as little as $1 and up to $5. The first duck that “swims” across the pool will win a percentage of the prize pool based on the cost of the duck. Additional prizes will be awarded to subsequent ducks including fun gift certificates, themed baskets, T-shirts and much more.
