BUFFALO — Top-seeded Canisius will host No 11 seed Niagara in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Atlantic Hockey Conference Tournament, league officials announced Sunday evening.

The best-of-three series will be held March 10-12 at KeyBank Rink in HARBORCENTER. Game one is slated for March 10 at 7:35 p.m., while game two is scheduled for an 8:05 p.m. puck drop on March 11. If necessary, a winner-take-all game three will be held March 12 at 6:35 p.m.

The winner of the series advances to the tournament semifinals, scheduled for March 17 at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.

Canisius (19-10-7) claimed the program’s first Atlantic Hockey regular season title and earned a bye into the quarterfinal round after finishing the regular season on a school-record 15-game unbeaten streak.

Niagara, meanwhile, advanced to the quarterfinals with an upset of No. 6 seed RIT in a first-round series at the Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester. The Purple Eagles won the series opener in dramatic fashion, 5-4, on Friday, but fell to the Tigers, 5-0, in game two on Saturday to force a decisive game three. The Purple Eagles completed the upset with a 4-1 victory in the series finale on Sunday.

The Griffs and Purple Eagles met four times during the regular season. Canisius swept the regular season series, withall four meetings coming during Canisius’ current 15-game unbeaten streak.

The series between Canisius and Niagara also marks the second consecutive postseason the two regional rivals have met. In a first-round series last March at HARBORCENTER, seventh-seeded Canisius fell in the opener, but rallied to defeat 10th-seeded Niagara in three games.

Individual and group tickets for the series are available. Tickets are priced at $15 (reserved) and $10 (general admission) for adults and $10 (reserved) and $8 (general admission) for children ages 11 and up. Tickets for children 10 and under are $5 for both reserved and general admission.
