BUFFALO — The Buffalo Sabres and Tampa Lightning took a 1-1 tie into a shootout at KeyBank Center Saturday night, where Tampa scored the lone shootout goal en route to a win over the Sabres.

Things started well for the Sabres, as they left the first period with a 1-0 lead thanks to a Ryan O’Reilly goal at 19:48, assisted by Jack Eichel and Rasmus Ristolainen.

Tampa tied things up early in the second period as Tyler Johnson scored at 2:37, assisted by Victor Hedman and Nikita Kucherov.

And that’s where it stayed — tied 1-1 for the remaining 37 minutes and 23 seconds of regulation and 5 minutes of overtime.

Brayden Point scored the only goal in the shootout, giving Tamps the extra point and widening the gap between themselves and Buffalo.

The Sabres play again late this afternoon in Pittsburgh.
