BUFFALO — The Canisius women’s basketball placed seven players on the MAAC All-Academic team the conference announced on Friday evening. The seven members, were the most of any MAAC school this season.

The Griffs’ senior leaders were a part of the team, as Tamara Miskovic and Lauren D’Hont earn their third-straight selections, respectively, while Emily Weber joins the team for the first time in her career at Canisius.

For the junior class selections comprised of Abby Schwenk, Margret Halfdanardottir and Sarah Cooley, it was the trios’ second appearance on the list, earning the honor in 2016 as well.

Meanwhile making the awards list for the first time was sophomore Maria Welch, who caps an incredibly strong tournament weekend, with her first MAAC All-Academic award.

The Griffs end tournament week, failing to convert on an upset bid against Quinnipiac, dropping the contest 63-58 to the Bobcats. Canisius was in control for a large majority of the contest before the offense came up cold in the final five minutes.

Prior to Friday’s loss the Griffs posted a thrilling overtime victory over rival Niagara, defeating the Purple Eagles, 80-74.

Canisius finishes the season with a 10-21 record and an 8-12 MAAC conference mark. Sara Hinriksdottir had a strong year, earning All-MAAC Second Team honors.
