BUFFALO — The University at Buffalo women’s basketball team (20-8, 10-7 MAC) will conclude their regular season on Saturday afternoon as they head to the MAC East regular season champions, Kent State.

The Bulls are locked in to being the #6 or #7 seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament and will host the first round game at Alumni Arena on Monday at 5:30 pm. With a win and an Ohio loss, the Bulls will be the #6 seed and host the #11 team (Akron). With a loss or an Ohio win, the Bulls will be the #7 seed and face the loser of the Miami vs. Bowling Green game on Saturday.

Buffalo got back to their winning ways on Wednesday night as they put together one of their most complete games of the season against the Akron Zips, downing the home team 81-55. The 81 points match a season-high for the Bulls as they shot 49.2% from the field, the best shooting percentage in a MAC game all season long. Senior guard JoAnna Smith led the Bulls offensive effort as she tied a career-high with 31 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals as she connected on a season-best six three pointers. Stephanie Reid chipped in with 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists as the Bulls had two players score 20 points in a game for the first time this season. The Bulls were dominant down low as they outscored the Zips, 34-20, and improved to 16-0 on the year when winning the battle of the paint.

This marks the 28th meeting between the two programs with the Golden Flashes holding the 24-13 edge in the all-time series. UB has been dominant in the series as of late, winning the last 10 games in the series inlcuding the matchup earlier this season at Alumni Arena by the score of 77-62. UB has won four straight against the Golden Flashes at the M.A.C. Center.

Since head coach Felisha Legette-Jack took over the reins of the program prior to the 2012-13 campaign, the Bulls have turned into one of the premier teams in the Mid-American Conference. UB is 88-68 under Legette-Jack’s watchful eye as they have accumulated at least 17 victories in each of the past four seasons. Buffalo notched their 20th win of the season on Wednesday and they have now recorded at least 19 wins in three straight seasons for the first time in program history. The Bulls have also produced back-to-back 20 win seasons for the first time since joining division I in 1998-99. Upon graduation following this season, senior JoAnna Smith will be the winningest player in the Bulls division I era as she has already accumulated 76 career victories in the blue and white.
