BUFFALO — With just one regular season game remaining on Friday night, the University at Buffalo men’s basketball team is currently locked in a five-way tie for second place in the Mid-American Conference. The Bulls will host Bowling Green on Friday, looking to secure one of four byes to the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament presented by VisitMyrtleBeach.com.
Buffalo will secure a bye in the upcoming conference tournament with a win on Friday night against Bowling Green. The seeding will still be up in the air as a victory could place UB anywhere between two and four in the league standings depending on the outcomes of the following games: Akron at Kent State, Miami at Ohio, Northern Illinois at Ball State, and Central Michigan at Western Michigan.
Below is the Mid-American Conference Tiebreaker policy:
Between TWO teams:
1. Head-to-head competition
2. Winning percentage* vs. ranked conference teams (top to bottom, regardless of division, vs. common opponents regardless of the number of times played)
For MULTIPLE (3 or more) team ties:
1. Total won-lost record/winning percentage* of games played among the tied teams
2. Two (2)-team tie-breaker procedure goes into effect (refer to A)
[NOTE: Once a three-team tie has been reduced to two teams, the two-team tiebreaker will go into effect.]
* – Winning percentage is used instead of record because of situations where teams do not play each other the same number of times. Therefore, a team that is 1-0 (1.000) would win the tiebreaker over a team that is 1-1 (.500).
In addition to the importance of conference tournament seeding, Friday’s game will also be Senior Day for the Bulls as they will honor their senior class of Christian Pino, Raheem Johnson, David Kadiri, Willie Conner, and Blake Hamilton. Tickets are on sale at the Alumni Arena Ticket Office, calling 1-877-UB-THERE or visiting UBBulls.com.
