BUFFALO – For the sixth time this season, Canisius goaltender Charles Williams has been named Team Travel USA Atlantic Hockey Goalie of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday.

A native of Canton, Mich., Williams was honored after recording a 32-save shutout of visiting Mercyhurst on Feb. 23 in the Griffs regular-season finale at KeyBank Rink in HARBORCENTER. He stopped 12 shots in the first period and 10 shots in the second and third frames to extend the longest active unbeaten streak in the nation to 15 games.

The 4-0 triumph over the Lakers represented Williams’ fifth shutout and 19th victory of the season, breaking former Canisius goaltender Tony Capobianco’s school records set during the 2012-13 season in both categories. The win also helped Canisius claim the program’s first Atlantic Hockey regular season title.

Canisius (19-10-7) is the No. 1 seed for the Atlantic Hockey Tournament. The Griffs will learn their opponent for their best-of-three series quarterfinal round series, scheduled for March 10-12 at KeyBank Rink at HARBORCENTER, upon the conclusion of the first round of the AHC Tournament.

Tickets for the AHC Quarterfinals are on sale now. They can be purchased by visiting ticketmaster.com or by calling 716-888-TIXX.
