SCIO — A 36-year-old Belmont woman was charged Saturday with second-degree criminal contempt after New York State Police say she was found riding in a car with a person who had an order of protection against her.

According to State Police records, Marie A. Halsey was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped on State Route 19 for an equipment violation. It was discovered that another passenger in that vehicle had an order of protection against Halsey.

She was arrested and processed at SP Amity, then arraigned before the Town of Friendship Court before being released. She is scheduled to appear in court tonight.
