CORTLAND — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its all-conference teams today, naming Buffalo States’s Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) to the first team while Mike Henry (Syracuse/West Genesee) earned second team honors, per the conference’s release.

Smith, a senior guard, ends his Buffalo State career as the program’s eighth highest-scoring player of all-time with 1303 points.  He finished the year fifth in the conference with an average of 19.9 points per game, and was second in overall field goal percentage, shooting 56.6 percent.  Smith was named to this year’s SUNYAC All-Tournament Team, and was an all-conference second team selection a season ago.

Henry led the SUNYAC in field goal percentage (56.8 percent), was fifth in rebounds (8.3 per contest) and 11th in scoring (15.3 points per game).  The junior guard was an All-SUNYAC Third Team honoree in 2015-16 and will start next season with 819 career points.

Buffalo State went 17-9 (10-8 SUNYAC) this year and made it to the conference semifinals as the No. 5 seed before falling by one point in overtime to eventual SUNYAC Champion, Oswego.  It was the third consecutive year that the Bengals advanced to the post season.  With its defeat of Cortland in the conference quarterfinals, Buffalo State earned its first conference playoff win since capturing the SUNYAC title in 2011.

Oswego’s Brain Sortino was named the conference’s Player of the Year and the Laker’s Jason Leone won Coach of the Year honors.  Oneonta’s Kevin Mackin was named the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year.
