The Canisius women’s lacrosse team travels to Binghamton to take on the Binghamton Bearcats Tuesday at 4 p.m. from the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Griffs will look to bounce back after a close 12-11 loss to Columbia this past Saturday from the Demske Sports Complex.  

The Griffs are 1-3 to begin the season, with their lone win coming against Oregon, 15-11, on Feb. 13. In the loss to Columbia Saturday, junior Erica Evans recorded team-highs in goals (5) and points (6), while also adding leading the team in draw controls (5) and ground balls (3). Junior Lauren Smolensky led the Golden Griffins with three assists in the loss. Evans has led the offensive charge for the Griffs to begin the season, scoring 11 times through the four games, while adding two assists. Fellow junior Jen Reininger ranks second on the team in goals, with seven, and has totaled nine points. Griffs goalkeeper Rebecca VanLaeken has received the start in all four games for the Blue and Gold, posting a 12.92 GAA and a .479 save pct.

The Griffs and Bearcats have squared off a total of 13 times heading into Tuesday’s contest. Canisius holds an 11-2 lifetime lead over Binghamton, while winning the last four matchups dating back to 2013. The Blue and Gold won the first ever meeting against Binghamton 26-1 in 2002. The Griffs held a six game win streak against Binghamton from 2005-11.

Binghamton is 1-2 to begin the season with a 16-12 win over Colgate last Wednesday. The Bearcats have also lost to No. 5 Syracuse, 16-5, and Dartmouth, 15-11. Sophomore Rebecca Golderman leads the Bearcats with goals (11) and is tied of the team lead in points (11). Junior Tiffany Ryan is tied with Golderman for the team lead in points (6g, 5a). Freshman goalkeeper Vanessa Walters holds a 10.35 GAA, while posting a .571 save pct.

The Griffs will next faceoff against Delaware Friday at 6 p.m., before taking on defending national champion North Carolina on Sunday at noon.
