ELMIRA — Nationally-No. 4-ranked Elmira pulled away with four third-period goals and defeated visiting Buffalo State, 6-0, in today’s ECAC West semifinals.

The Soaring Eagles broke through to open the scoring with just over a minute remaining in the first period, and extended their advantage to two early in the second period. The score remained 2-0 entering the final frame, but Elmira would pull away with a four-goal outburst over the final 20 minutes to claim a 6-0 victory. The Soaring Eagles outshot the Bengals 43-19 for the game and finished 1 for 2 on the power play and also tallied a shorthanded goal. Buffalo State was unable to convert on four power-play opportunities. Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, CA/Arroyo) finished with 37 saves in goal for the Bengals.

Elmira will advance to the ECAC West title game next Saturday at No. 1 Plattsburgh, who defeated Utica, 6-1, in today’s other semifinal.
