BUFFALO – For the first time in program history, Canisius has captured the Atlantic Hockey Conference regular season championship.
The Griffs claimed the top spot in the league standings with a mark of 18-4-6 for 42 points. Canisius finished one point ahead of second-place Air Force (19-6-3), who fell in overtime to Sacred Heart in its regular season finale on Saturday.
The regular season title gives the Griffs the top seed for the 2017 Atlantic Hockey Tournament. Canisius also receives one of five first round byes and will host the lowest remaining seed in a best-of-three quarterfinal round series March 10-12 at KeyBank Rink in HARBORCENTER.
