NIAGARA UNIVERSITY — Sophomore Dominic Robb scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds as the Niagara Purple Eagles fell behind to the second place Saint Peter’s Peacocks, 66-53, on Friday night.

After falling behind early, the Purple Eagles made several runs that were halted by key baskets by the Peacocks as the teams have split the last eight meetings.

Down 5-0 early, Kahlil Dukes took advantage of a wide open opportunity and cashed in a 3-pointer to cut the Peacock lead down to two. Saint Peter’s, then, took control of the first half, leading by as many as 16, thanks to 11 first-half points by Trevis Wyche. Dukes sank a 3-pointer as time expired to the end the first half with Niagara trailing, 34-21.

Niagara started the second half on a 7-0 run, with Chris Barton scoring five points and Dominic Robb with two, to cut the lead to 34-28. Though, Saint Peter’s answered with a 7-0 run of its own. The Purple Eagles trailed 46-40 with 9:27 remaining when the Peacocks’ Antwon Portley connected on 3-pointers on three straight possessions to build a 55-44 lead with 6:29 left. The Peacocks pulled away on a 11-2 run to take a 66-48 lead into the final minute.

The Purple Eagles wrap up their regular season schedule on Sunday at 2 p.m. against the Fairfield Stags. The game will air on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel, AM 1400 WWWS and on the Niagara Sports Network via PurpleEagles.com.
