WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Brian Higgins, a member of the bipartisan Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, released a statement today in response to President Trump’s action to rescind protections for transgender students, calling it “an attack on our most vulnerable.”

Higgins statement follows in its entirety:

“This is an attack on our most vulnerable and a significant setback in the hard-fought advancement of human rights.   The struggles for transgender children and families are real and every school across the country should be a place where students can feel comfortable and safe.

“As parents and as a nation we should be teaching our children to be compassionate, to look out for others, and to respect individuality. Ironically, most children get it; they are blind to the things that make us different and embrace the beauty inside others that can bring us together. Sadly, this directive says that the Trump Administration does not.”
