BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — The Canisius baseball team had trouble at the plate in the series finale against the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs on Sunday, as the squad recorded just two hits in the 5-0 loss. With the loss the Griffs end the opening series with a 2-2 record, while Gardner-Webb also completed the series 2-2.

Runnin’ Bulldogs starter, Bradley Hallman, worked eight strong innings and allowed just two hits and fanned six in the commanding win.

Gardner-Webb started with one run in the bottom of the first inning, before striking again for three runs in the bottom of the fourth, and a run again the bottom of the eighth to cap the scoring.

Carson Perkins got the start for the Blue and Gold and was touched for just three runs against, in 3.2 innings of work. Perkins only allowed two hits and one walk in the nearly four frames, and fanned five. Michael Ginther and Brennan Smith combined for the final 4.1 innings and allowed six hits and two runs between them.

While offense was hard to come by for Canisius, the two hits came from the same player as Ryan Stekl belted out the pair of knocks.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs had eight hits in the contest with the greatest amount of damage being dealt by Luke Kaesmeyer, who finished the game two hits, and two RBI, as well as one run.

The Griffs now head home to prepare for its next road trip, when the Griffs head down to Lake Point, Ga., for four-game tournament, facing IPFW on Feb. 24, Chicago State on Feb. 25, NJIT on Feb. 25 and IPFW again on Feb. 26. Game times are set for 5:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 a.m., respectively.
