NEW YORK — Senior Cooper Roach finished fourth in the men’s mile run with a time of 4:11.30, as the Canisius indoor track program completed day two of the 2017 MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships Sunday evening from the New Balance Armory Track and Field Center.

Roach was the first non-Iona runner to finish the mile run, while fellow senior Xavier Sauvageau placed seventh in a time of 4:17.94.

Sophomore Paul Henry became the second member of the Blue and Gold to place seventh in an event, finishing the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.32.

Also running for the men was senior Brennan Root, who placed sixth in the 3k event in 8:32.87, having the best finish of any non-Iona runner.

On the women’s side, sophomore Siobhan Qiunn ran to a seventh-place finish in the 3k with a time of 10:08.40, with junior teammate Carlin Sullivan finishing in 12th at 10:16.91.

The Golden Griffins also competed in the 4×400 meter relay with the men finishing in seventh place at 3:31.30, while the women placed ninth at 4:19.18.

Overall, the Griffs broke one school record (women’s DMR) and set a Canisius Championship record (men’s DMR) on the weekend. The men’s second place DMR finish from Saturday evening is the third fastest finish in the MAAC this year, while the women’s third place DMR finish was also third best in the conference. Roach’s finish in the mile event was the seventh fastest in the MAAC this season. 11 men’s runners were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team, Alex Cambria, David Carey, Patrick Crowley, Austin Oetinger, Cooper Roach, Xavier Sauvageau, Galen Snyder, Josh Sopchak, A.J. Stuver, Justin Vestri and Brandon Williams. Fourteen women’s runners were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team, Christian Conner, Aileen Doyle, Haley Keene, Hannah Latragna, Mary Manzari, Cat Niederpruem, Anna Phillips, Siobhan Quinn, Katie Simon, Carlin Sullivan, Kari Tuite, Haylie Virginia, Macey Walker and Rachael Weissenburg.

The Griffs will next compete in the ECAC/IC4A Championship to be held on Mar. 4, from Boston, Mass., closing the indoor track season. The Blue and Gold will begin the outdoor season Saturday, Apr. 1, when they compete at the SUNY Geneseo Invite.
