NIAGARA UNIV. — The Niagara women’s basketball team closed out its home schedule with a 71-63 win over Saint Peter’s on Saturday.

Saint Peter’s went on a 7-2 run to open the game and dominated on offense for most of the first quarter, but the Purple Eagles came back and after a Rampado layup, were down by only one point, 12-11, with almost four minutes left to play. The Purple Eagles and Peacocks traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter and were tied three times, but Saint Peter’s had a narrow 18-17 lead going into the second quarter. The lead went back and forth in the second quarter and a free throw from Kaylee Stroemple gave Niagara a 33-32 lead going into the third quarter. The Purple Eagles began to pick up offensive momentum late in the third quarter. Four points from Sherburne and a three from Maggie McIntyre in the final four minutes of the quarter helped Niagara to a 52-47 at the end of the third. Niagara maintained its lead through the fourth, with five players contributing points for the purple and white, and the team was able to close out its home schedule with a win.

The Purple Eagles take on Rider on Friday at 7 p.m. and Monmouth on Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. for their final road trip of the regular season.
