BUFFALO — The Buffalo Sabres came back from a 4-1 deficit in the third period to beat the San Jose Sharks 5-4 in overtime at KeyBank Center.

In the overtime session, Jack Eichel fed Evander Kane for the game winner at 1:05 capping the Blue & Gold’s comeback effort. It was Kane’s second of the night and 16th of the season.

Matt Moulson opened the scoring for Buffalo at 7:24 of the first period, assisted by Brian Gionta and Tyler Ennis on the power play. San Jose tied the game at 14:03 and took a 2-1 lead at 17:13.

Another San Jose goal at 11:23 of the second period made it 3-1. It turned into a 4-1 lead in the third period before Buffalo started their comeback with a Ryan O’Reilly goal at 9:03 of the third period. Jack Eichel and Rasmus Ristolainen assisted on the goal. After Kane’s goal at 11:36, which was assisted by Cody Franson and Brian Gionta, Kyle Okoso scored his 17th of the season. Sam Reinhart and Ryan O’Reilly assisted on that one, tying the game at 12:31 of the third.

With the victory the Sabres’ record improves to 22-21-10. They next play Thursday when the Anaheim Ducks fly in to KeyBank Center.
