
ONEONTA — Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) netted a career-high 42 points, but Oneonta opened the second half with a 14-3 run to break open a tie game and never looked back en route to a 103-85 victory over visiting Buffalo State tonight in a SUNYAC contest.
Smith was 20 of 29 from the floor and added seven rebounds. He scored 29 points in the first half.
Only two other Bengals scored in double-figures, with Nico McLean (Buffalo/Amherst) tallying 14, and Mike Henry (Syracuse/West Genesee) adding 10 points and nine boards. Buffalo State led by as many as six in the first half before going into the intermission knotted at 44-44.
Oneonta mounted an early surge in the second half and kept pressing, leading by as many as 20 and pouring in 59 second-half points. The Red Dragons shot 70 percent for the game with 66 points coming in the paint. Oneonta also outscored the Bengals 20-10 at the free throw line. Buffalo State shot 45 percent from the floor and just 29 percent from beyond the arc.
Buffalo State will play at New Paltz Saturday at 2 p.m.
