NEW PALTZ — Buffalo State hit 12 3-pointers and build a large lead before coasting to a 78-69 victory over host New Paltz today in a SUNYAC game.
Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) followed up his 42-point game from yesterday with a game-high 22 points today. Dom Grayer (Brooklyn/Bishop Loughlin) added 21 points with all of his scoring coming in the form of seven 3-pointers. Jordan Glover (Buffalo/St. Joe’s) had 12 points and five assists, and Mike Henry (Syracuse/West Genesee) netted 11 points to go with 1 rebounds and five steals. New Paltz took and early 13-4 advantage, but the lead was short-lived, as the Bengals answered with a 14-2 run. The Hawks led again briefly, but the Bengals assembled a 14-0 run late in the first half to take a lead they would never surrender. Buffalo State led by six at the break and pushed the margin to as many as 23 before cruising to the nine-point win. The Bengals converted 22 New Paltz turnovers into 33 points and also held an 18-1 advantage in second-chance points.
Buffalo State was just 4 of 7 at the free throw line, while New Paltz was 15 of 24.
Buffalo State will play host to Cortland next Friday at 5:30 p.m.
