BUFFALO – Canisius senior netminder Charles Williams has been named the Atlantic Hockey Conference’s Goalie of the Month for January, league officials announced Thursday.

The honor is the second monthly award received by Williams, as he was named the circuit’s top goaltender for the month of November.

A native of Canton, Mich., Williams fashioned a 7-1-1 mark in nine starts between the pipes for the Griffs in January, recording a 1.44 goals against average and .958 save percentage in those contests. The Hober Baker Award nominee recorded 30 or more saves in five contests and allowed one goal or fewer in four games.

A two-time Atlantic Hockey Goalie of the Week selection in January, Williams went 7-0-1 against Atlantic Hockey Conference competition, posting a 1.36 goals against average and .959 save percentage against league foes.

Williams began the month with a 33-save effort in a 2-1 setback to No. 16 St. Lawrence (Jan. 7). He followed that performance with 38 saves in 4-1 victory at league-leading Air Force (Jan. 13) and a season-high 46 saves in a 2-2 draw against the Falcons in the series finale (Jan. 14).

In a home-and-home series with RIT, Williams made 45 saves in a 3-1 win on the road (Jan. 20) and completed the weekend sweep with 25 saves in a 6-1 victory at HARBORCENTER (Jan. 21).

Williams continued his solid play against rival Niagara, turning aside 35 shots in 4-1 triumph against the Purple Eagles at home (Jan. 24).

In a road series at American International, he stopped 28 shots in a 4-2 victory in the series opener (Jan. 27) and made 25 stops in 6-1 victory in the finale (Jan. 28).

Williams closed out the month with a 23-save effort in a 5-2 win at Niagara (Jan. 31) that moved the Griffs into sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Hockey standings.

Winners of six straight and unbeaten in its last eight contests, Canisius (14-10-5, 13-4-4 AHC) returns to action Friday when it opens an Atlantic Hockey series against Army West Point with a 7:35 p.m. contest at KeyBank Rink in HARBORCENTER.
