The newest Citizen Soldiers to complete Army basic combat training and advanced individual training were welcomed to their units during a New York Army National Guard battle handoff ceremony.
- Pvt. Tyler Erdley from Hamburg was formally welcomed into the 105th Military Police Company during a transition ceremony held January 22, 2017 at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
- Pvt. Edward Logel from Grand Island was formally welcomed into the 105th Military Police Company during a transition ceremony held January 22, 2017 at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
- Pvt. Pearson Proctor from West Seneca was formally welcomed into the 105th Military Police Company during a transition ceremony held January 22, 2017 at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
- Pvt. Matthew Sweet from Cuba was formally welcomed into the 152nd Engineer Company during a transition ceremony held January 22, 2017 at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
- Pvt. Mikeal Bell from Wilson was formally welcomed into the Company A (Engineers), 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion during a transition ceremony held January 22, 2017 at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
- Pvt. Timothy Pierce from East Aurora was formally welcomed into the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion during a transition ceremony held January 22, 2017 at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
- Pvt. Jonathon Morse from Angelica was formally welcomed into the 827th Engineer Company during a transition ceremony held January 22, 2017 at the Patriot Way Armory in Rochester.
- Pvt. Jacob Mccormick from Rochester was formally welcomed into the Company C (Signal), 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion during a transition ceremony held January 22, 2017 at the Patriot Way Armory in Rochester.
- Pvt. Jonathan Pitre from Hamlin was formally welcomed into the Company A, 2-108th Infantry during a transition ceremony held January 22, 2017 at the Patriot Way Armory in Rochester.
- Pvt. Dalton Seeley from Le Roy was formally welcomed into the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion during a transition ceremony held January 22, 2017 at the Patriot Way Armory in Rochester.
- Pfc. Donald Wolak from Rochester was formally welcomed into the Intelligence and Sustainment Company, 42nd Infantry Division during a transition ceremony held January 22, 2017 at the Patriot Way Armory in Rochester.
The ceremony marks their completion of the National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program, a preparatory training program that provides new recruits with training, lessons and skills to excel at their initial military training.
The Soldiers will now embark on their traditional National Guard service to state and nation as part-time Citizen Soldiers.
“The handoff ceremony marks the introduction of our new Soldiers to their unit and receiving new shoulder insignia, highlighting the start of their military service here in New York to serve state and nation,” German said. “I congratulate these Soldiers for their initial accomplishments in training as their first milestone of a career as a Citizen Soldier.”

The New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs (DMNA) is the state’s executive agency responsible to the Governor for managing New York’s Military Forces, which consists of nearly 20,000 members of the New York Army National Guard, the New York Air National Guard, the New York Naval Militia and the New York Guard.
