FREDONIA — Mike Henry (Syracuse/West Genesee) netted a team-high 22 points to lead Buffalo State to a 83-75 victory over host Fredonia today in an important contest in the season-long Battle by the Lake competition and in the SUNYAC playoff race.

Henry shot 8 of 10 from the field and added eight rebounds and three steals. Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) poured in 17 points to go with six rebounds. Nico McLean (Buffalo/Amherst) added 14 points and five assists, and Dom Grayer (Brooklyn/Bishop Loughlin) netted 13 points. Buffalo State used a 14-3 run early in the first half to build a 13-point lead it would never surrender. The Bengals led 42-35 at the break and stretched the advantage to as many as 21 in the second half before coasting to the win. Buffalo State shot 57 percent from the field for the game and hit 9 of 20 from beyond the arc. Buffalo State outrebounded the Blue Devils, 33-24.

The victory gives Buffalo State one point in the Battle by the Lake competition, cutting Fredonia’s lead to 11-4.
