PITTSBURGH, Pa.—After scoring just five goal in the last three games, Buffalo State exploded for its highest offensive output since 2004 in a 9-3 victory over host Chatham today in an ECAC West contest.

Bri Carroll (Peoria, AZ/AZ Virtual Academy) and Erin Gehen (W. Seneca, NY/W. Seneca West) had two goals and an assist apiece for Buffalo State. Rachel Lenard (Orchard Park, NY/Nardin) picked up a goal and three assists. Natasha Steinle (Morrison, CO/CIHA) added a goal and a helper, and Missy Mallon (Amherst, NY/Amherst), Christine Harris (Mountain Top, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and Caitie Horvatits (Elma, NY/Iroquois) also scored.  Viivi Vaattovaara (Veikkola, Finland) chipped in a pair of assists.

The Bengals scored the game’s first two goals and pushed the lead to 3-1 just before the first intermission on Gehen’s second of the game and 12th of the season.
Lenard’s sixth of the season pushed the lead to 4-1, but Chatham pulled within one with a pair of goals late in the middle frame. The Bengals quickly put the game out of reach, netting three goals in a span of 2:14 early in the third period, before adding a pair of shorthanded goals in the final minute.  The Bengals finished 2 for 4 on the power play, while the Cougars were 1 for 6.
Buffalo State finished with a 41-38 edge in shots as Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, CA/Arroyo) finished with 35 saves in the win.

Buffalo State will face Chatham again Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
