BUFFALO — For the second consecutive week, and fifth time this season, Canisius senior netminder Charles Williams has been named the Team Travel USA Atlantic Hockey Goalie of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday.

Williams was recognized after stopping 65-of-67 shots he faced in leading the Griffs to a sweep of RIT in a home-and-home series last weekend. In the series opener on Jan. 20, Williams turned aside 45 shots, including the final 41 attempts he faced from the Tigers, to propel Canisius to a 3-1 victory. The senior goaltender has made 40 or more saves in six contests this season, with a record of 4-2-0 in those games.

In the series finale the following evening, Williams stopped 20-of-21 shots in a 6-1 triumph, with 19 of his saves coming in the final two periods.

With the two victories against the Tigers, Canisius (10-10-5, 9-4-4 AHC) completed a sweep of the season series with RIT for the first time since the 2012-13 campaign. In his four games against the Tigers this season, Williams turned aside 148 of the 151 (.980) shots he faced.

Unbeaten in its last four contests, Canisius returns to action Tuesday when it hosts rival Niagara in a 7:35 p.m. puck drop at KeyBank Rink in HARBORCENTER.
