HAMDEN, Conn. — The Canisius Golden Griffins get back to action Friday night when the team travels to Quinnipiac. The Griffs are coming off a 76-72 loss to Monmouth Jan. 16, just the team’s third loss since Thanksgiving.

The Golden Griffins are 12-7 overall and have won 11 of their last 14 games. Canisius comes into this game with seven true road wins this year, which is tied with five other schools for the second-most road wins in the country. As a team, Canisius ranks third in the country in assists per game average at 18.5 per game. Canisius junior Kassius Robertson ranks third in the MAAC in scoring average with his 17.7 points per game. He had three 3-pointers in the loss to Monmouth, giving him multiple 3-point makes in 52 career games. Junior Jermaine Crumpton was named the MAAC’s Player of the Week Monday after he averaged 22.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game Jan. 9-14.

This will be the eighth all-time meeting between these two schools, with Canisius holding a 5-2 lead in the series. Canisius heads into the TD Bank Sports Center with a 3-0 record in the building. Since the series started in 2013-14, the visiting team has won four of the seven previous meetings between the two schools. This series has provided for some dramatics as well. Two of the last four games between these schools have been decided by three points or less, with each school winning one of those contests.

Quinnipiac is 7-11 overall and 4-4 in MAAC play after beating Iona 97-91 in overtime Jan. 14 at home. The Bobcats’ win over Iona snapped a two-game losing streak, and the 97 points scored are the most for the team since the Bobcats hung 99 points on Hartford Dec. 7. As a team, Quinnipiac averages 75.4 points per game, which ranks fifth in the conference. On defense, the Bobcats allow 79.6 points per contest, which ranks ninth in the league. Freshman Mikey Dixon leads the team and ranks 10th in the league in scoring average at 15.9 points per game. That scoring average is tops among all of the league’s newcomers. Fellow freshman Peter Kiss chips in 12.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Kiss and Dixon account for 43.3 percent of all 3-point field goals for Quinnipiac. Senior Donovan Smith leads the team and ranks 16th in the MAAC in rebounding average. As a team, Quinnipiac ranks second in the MAAC with 39.7 boards per game.

The Griffs will renew its long-standing rivalry with Niagara on Monday.
