ITHACA — The Canisius indoor track program will take part in its second event of the season — the Upstate Challenge — at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Griffs are coming off of a successful opening weekend at the RIT Invitational which saw sophomore Siobhan Quinn break a school record in the women’s one mile event (5:11.99). Also running well for the Blue and Gold were junior Cat Niederpruem who gained her first collegiate win in the 3k (10:55.99), freshman Anthony Belfatto who won the 3k event (9:29.00), freshman Marcus Brown who had the top time in the 800 meter (2:01.22) and senior Jeff Antolos who won the one mile event (4:19.76), qualifying for the ECAC Championship.

Quinn now ranks second in the MAAC in the one-mile, with senior Cooper Roach ranking third in the 1000-meter and Antolos holding the fourth spot in the one-mile in the overall conference standings.

Last year’s Upstate Challenge saw graduate Chad Maloy finish second in the 3k event, while sophomore Josh Sopchak finished fourth in the 800 meter.

After this weekend’s event, the Griffs will head to Youngstown, Ohio for the Youngstown Invitational on Feb. 3.
