NIAGARA UNIV. — The Niagara University women’s basketball team will host the Fairfield stags at 7 p.m. Friday at the Gallagher Center.

The Purple Eagles will wear gold laces in their shoes to show support for all those affected by pediatric cancer. Fans who make a donation to the Go4TheGoal Foundation, which aims to improve the lives of children with cancer, will receive free admission to the game.

The Purple Eagles fell to crosstown rival Canisius, 65-57, in the teams’ first Battle of the Bridge game of the season on Wednesday. Victoria Rampado led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 20 points. Rampado has scored 20 or more points in eight games so far this season. Rampado also had a team-best seven rebounds. Kaylee Stroemple and Jamie Sherburne also added doule figure points for Niagara; Stroemple had 13 points and Sherburne had 10. Kharysma Bryant had a team-high two steals and Adila Gathers recorded her second career block.
The Purple Eagles scored a game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter.

Redshirt-junior forward Rampado leads the Purple Eagles in scoring with 16.1 points per game and in rebounding with 8.0 rebounds per game. Rampado is second in the MAAC in rebounding and fourth in scoring. Junior forward Stroemple also averages in double figure scoring with 12.6 points per game. Stroemple has the fourth-best field goal percentage in the MAAC; she is 89-for-169 for a percentage of 52.7. Tiffany Corselli leads Niagara in assists with a team-best 2.6 assists per game and in steals with 1.6 steals per game. Niagara leads the MAAC in 3-point field goal percentage; the team is 111-for-324 (34.3%), is second in free throw percentage (73.0%) and is fourth in the MAAC in overall field goal percentage (40.1%).

Senior forward Kelsey Carey leads the Stags in scoring with 15.5 points per game. She also ranks fifth in the MAAC in scoring. Samantha Cooper, a redshirt-junior forward, leads the team, and the MAAC, in rebounding with 8.5 rebounds per game. Cooper also leads the MAAC in minutes played with 37.4 minutes per game and is fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (42.2%). Sophomore guard Casey Foley leads the Stags in assists with 3.2 per game and in steals with 1.1 per game. Foley has the fourth-most assists in the MAAC. Overall, Fairfield is second in the MAAC in assists (15.5 assists per game) and 3-point field goal percentage (33.3%) and third in the MAAC in overall field goal percentage (40.5%).

The Purple Eagles head to Connecticut to take on Quinnipiac on Jan. 26 and Fairfield on Jan. 29.
