BUFFALO — Senior Canisius goaltender Charles Williams has been named the Atlantic Hockey Team Travel USA Goaltender of the Week, league officials announced on Tuesday.

The honor marks the fourth time this season that Williams has been honored with the award, having been previously recognized once in October (Oct. 25) and twice in November (Nov. 8 & Nov. 22).

A native of Canton, Mich., Williams stopped 84-of-87 shots faced in leading Canisius to a win and a tie at league-leading Air Force last weekend. He opened the series by making 38 saves, including all 30 attempts he faced during the final two periods, in a 4-1 victory over the Falcons on Jan. 13.

Williams followed that performance with a career-high 46 saves in a 2-2 tie against the Falcons on Saturday. He stopped 24 shots during the first two periods to keep the Griffs within striking distance, before turning aside all 22 attempts he faced from Air Force in the third period and overtime to keep the contest level. His 46-save effort marked the fourth time this season Williams has made 40 or more saves in a game.

In the latest national rankings, Williams is tied for second in save percentage (.941), tied for fifth in shutouts (3) and 12th in goals against average (2.06).

Canisius (8-10-5, 7-4-4 AHC) returns to action this weekend with a home-and-home series against RIT. The Griffs and Tigers open the set Friday with a 7:05 p.m. contest at the Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester before completing the series Saturday with a 7:35 p.m. puck drop at HARBORCENTER.
