LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Matt Scott scored a game-high 22 points, but a late second half run by the Rider Broncs pushed them passed the Purple Eagles in an 89-78 road defeat on Sunday.

Niagara faced an early 14-7 deficit before charging into the game behind a game-high 15-point first half by Matt Scott.  Trailing 32-27 with 7:15 left in the first half, the Purple Eagles used a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the game which was capped by a Scott layup. NU went into halftime down 44-41.

The second half was played in a five-point window through the opening 12 minutes. With the game tied at 65-65, the Broncs went on a game-altering 12-0 run for a 77-65 lead with 6:25 left.  Niagara trimmed the lead to 80-74 with under two minutes remaining, but Rider’s Xavier Lundy hit a 3-pointer with 1:10 on the clock to halt Niagara’s momentum.

Niagara continues its two-game road trip against Manhattan on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.
