NIAGARA FALLS — A body was found early this morning in a vacant home on 14th Street after Niagara Falls firefighters were called to a fire around 12:30 a.m.

Officials say the fire was reported by a passerby. When fire crews arrived on scene, heavy flame were already coming through the roof of the home. The roof collapsed as firefighters were fighting the blaze, causing them to pull out for their own safety.

The body, which police officials have not identified, was reportedly found on the second floor of the home. It’s unclear if the person died as a result of the fire or was deceased when the fire began.

The fire remains under investigation.
