ELMA — New York State Police charged 28-year-old Tara Lynn Nixon on Thursday with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop on State Route 16.

Police say they stopped a 2004 Chevy Impala at approximately 11:40 p.m. While interviewing the driver and passenger, they smelled marijuana, which led to a search of the occupants. Tara Lynn Nixon, the passenger, was found to be in possession of crack cocaine concealed in a pack of cigarettes.

Nixon was subsequently arrested and charged, transported to SP Elma for processing and arraigned before the Town of Elma Court, by Justice Sakowski, who remanded her to The Erie County Holding Center on $10,000 bail.
