BUFFALO — With four unanswered goals — including a pair of goals in the final four minutes — the Boston Bruins toppled the struggling Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center by a score of 4-2.


The Sabres started strong with an even-strength goal by Marcus Foligno just 1:32 into the first period. Jack Eichel and Matt Moulson assisted on the goal. Kyle Okposo put Buffalo up 2-0 at the 18:10 mark, assisted by Moulson and Sam Reinhart. 


It was all Boston from there. Patrice Bergeron put Boston on the scoreboard 3:20 into the second period, assisted by Brad Marchand and Torey Krug. David Krejci made it 2-2 at 16:13 of the second period. Frank Vatrano assisted on the tying goal.


Ryan Spooner scored the final two goals of the game for Boston. The first, at 16:07 of the third period was assisted by Krejci and Vatrano. The second, an empty-netter with 52 seconds remaining in regulation, was unassisted. 


With the loss, the Sabres drop to last place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 13-14-8.

NOTES:

  • The Sabres failed to record a point in the home portion of a home-and-home series against the Bruins for the first time since April 4, 1993 after going 4-0-2 in the last six.
  • With his goal, Kyle Okposo now has six points (2+4) in his last five home games and 23 points (5+18) in 26 career games against the Bruins.
  • Matt Moulson assisted on both of Buffalo’s goals tonight and now has six points (1+5) in his last six games at KeyBank Center.
  • With his assist on Okposo’s goal, Sam Reinhart has extended his point streak to a career-best five games (2+4).
  • Injury Update: Derek Grant (hand) left tonight’s game during the second period and did not return.
